“Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives” is the saying that begins every episode of the Peacock soap, which premiered on NBC on November 8, 1965. And at this point, the late, great Macdonald Carey’s voiceover is about the only thing that hasn’t changed over the years about the show. Today’s Salem is an anything-goes kind of small town in which big businesses come to metaphorical blows (and their execs, literal ones!), high-tech masks can transform anyone into, well, anyone else, and death is a reversible condition. Thankfully, Days of Our Lives’ beating heart also remains the same: love, family, friends… and OK, the occasional baby swap, too!
